Welcome

I consider myself an informed, eco-conscious individual, and I approach my glass art with a similar awareness of man's impact on the Earth.

SOLAR ENERGY:
Casting glass is necessarily energy-intensive. A vast amount of electricity is used to create the heat required to melt glass. At my studio, located within The Crucible (an industrial arts school in West Oakland), we use nearly 250 solar panels to generate electricity, which is either used directly by The Crucible or fed back into PG&E's grid.

RECYCLING:
The majority of my kiln-cast glass sculpture is produced using recycled materials, which are most frequently optical lenses. The lenses were originally used by optometry students, but I recylce them for my glass artwork. I melt these 1/4" thick by 3" lenses into various molds for use later in my sculptures and/or carvings.

REUSE:
Often my bases are made from found-objects or from materials obtained at local recycling centers (such as Urban Ore). Additionally, all cut-offs are reused and other glass scraps are recast for use again later.
